Mahateerarajchow Day

This is the formal remembrace of HM King Rama VI, the founder of Samaggi Samagaom.



KING VAJIRAVUDH [ Rama VI ] 1910 - 1925
Whose reigning title was Phra Mongkut Klao Chaoyuhua, was second son of King Chulalongkorn and Queen Sripatcharintra Boromrajininart. He was born at Bangkok on January 1, 1881, and was proclaimed heir-apparent, or Crown Prince, on the death of his elder half-brother, Prince Vajirunhis, in 1895, while he was studying in England. He was the first Siamese King to have studied abroad, first with a private tutor before entering the Royal Military College at Sandhurst and, after being commissioned, was attached to the Durham Light Infantry. In 1899, His Majesty entered Christchurch College, Oxford, where he studied history. In 1901, His Majesty established Samaggi Samagom, the Thai Student Association UK, with the aim to unite and reinforce harmonious relationships amongst Thai people in the UK.

The event is jointly hosted by the Thai Student Office (Kor Por) and Samaggi Samagom on Saturday 25th November 2006, from 9-12am, at Kor Por. Everyone is welcome. In the afternoon, representatives from Thai Societies around the UK will have their first general meeting.

Warwick Thai Festival

A Message from Warwick Thai Society:

On behalf of The Thai Society, University of Warwick, we would like to let you know about the coming special event …Warwick Thai Festival which is held for the first time in UK. We aim to give the profit out of the event towards the charity which is the Pattaya Orphanage Trust and Rotary International.

This event is on Sunday 25th, June 2006 and we would start by doing alms round (offer food to the monk) at 10 am. In this festival, there will be various kind of Thai food for sale, Thai Performance (traditional and modern Thai Dance), demonstration of Thai Boxing, and a lot more about Thai culture and traditions including some Thai stuffs and souvenir for sale. There will be many activities from 10am till 6pm. See more information in the attached file.

The venue of this event is at Warwick Town Centre, Warwick CV34 4DP.

Moreover, there will be one stall representing our beloved king and his 60th year on the throne setting up by University of Warwick. Due to this work, we think it is a good idea to ask you all to write some nice words to our king according to his 60th reign year and we will post it on the board in the King Exhibition with your university’s names.

A Talk on Thailand’s Science &Technology development - 11 March @3pm

Dr. Pairash Thanyapong

After the University Challenge (around 15:00) at Kor Por, we are very privileged to have Dr. Pairash Thanyapong, who happen to bein London at that time, giving us a talk (~ 1 hr) about current situation of Thailand’s Science &Technology development and the future prospective.

Dr. Pairash is a distinguish leader in Science &Technology management in Thailand who recently received a Leadership of Technology Management award from PICMET. He is a former Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Science and Technology, a former President of National Science and Technology Development Agency(NSTDA), a former Director of National Electronics &Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), and a former Rector of the King Mongkut’s Institute of TechnologyLadkrabang. He is also a former Thai Student in UK.
