This is the formal remembrace of HM King Rama VI, the founder of Samaggi Samagaom.

KING VAJIRAVUDH [ Rama VI ] 1910 - 1925
Whose reigning title was Phra Mongkut Klao Chaoyuhua, was second son of King Chulalongkorn and Queen Sripatcharintra Boromrajininart. He was born at Bangkok on January 1, 1881, and was proclaimed heir-apparent, or Crown Prince, on the death of his elder half-brother, Prince Vajirunhis, in 1895, while he was studying in England. He was the first Siamese King to have studied abroad, first with a private tutor before entering the Royal Military College at Sandhurst and, after being commissioned, was attached to the Durham Light Infantry. In 1899, His Majesty entered Christchurch College, Oxford, where he studied history. In 1901, His Majesty established Samaggi Samagom, the Thai Student Association UK, with the aim to unite and reinforce harmonious relationships amongst Thai people in the UK.

The event is jointly hosted by the Thai Student Office (Kor Por) and Samaggi Samagom on Saturday 25th November 2006, from 9-12am, at Kor Por. Everyone is welcome. In the afternoon, representatives from Thai Societies around the UK will have their first general meeting.

Warwick Thai Festival

A Message from Warwick Thai Society:

On behalf of The Thai Society, University of Warwick, we would like to let you know about the coming special event …Warwick Thai Festival which is held for the first time in UK. We aim to give the profit out of the event towards the charity which is the Pattaya Orphanage Trust and Rotary International.

This event is on Sunday 25th, June 2006 and we would start by doing alms round (offer food to the monk) at 10 am. In this festival, there will be various kind of Thai food for sale, Thai Performance (traditional and modern Thai Dance), demonstration of Thai Boxing, and a lot more about Thai culture and traditions including some Thai stuffs and souvenir for sale. There will be many activities from 10am till 6pm. See more information in the attached file.

The venue of this event is at Warwick Town Centre, Warwick CV34 4DP.

Moreover, there will be one stall representing our beloved king and his 60th year on the throne setting up by University of Warwick. Due to this work, we think it is a good idea to ask you all to write some nice words to our king according to his 60th reign year and we will post it on the board in the King Exhibition with your university’s names.

Dr. Pairash is a distinguish leader in Science &Technology management in Thailand who recently received a Leadership of Technology Management award from PICMET. He is a former Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Science and Technology, a former President of National Science and Technology Development Agency(NSTDA), a former Director of National Electronics &Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), and a former Rector of the King Mongkut’s Institute of TechnologyLadkrabang. Samaggi Games Review

At last! Samaggi Games has passed with all joys and funs we had there.
It was the best Samaggi Games ever, I can say. The reason was that we were all TIRED. Yeah, although I didn't play any sport because I spent most of my time organising the event and keeping an eye on CHAIRBALL, it was absolutely exhausting.

Samaggi Games was held at BRADFIELD COLLEGE, Reading. The reason why we needed to use their place was because of the sport facilities. At first, we wanted to hold it in LONDON, where most of Samaggi people are based. However, as you all know well how London colleges' facilities are like - scattering into every directions of London... Samaggi decided to co-host it with Reading, who suggested that we rented the venue for a day. The cost was massive, and that's why Samaggi has to collect "one" pound from each of the participants and tried very hard to get sponsorship from many contributors. Thanks to Western Union, J'Meoy, Shark, Singha and so on...

The event started at 9am. The delays of buses and trains were so unpredictable so Samaggi decided not to have the opening ceremony and start the games at the correct time in order to prevent the whole event from ending too late. But it all went well! I didn't know much how other sports were doing, but at CHAIRBALL, we all had a great time in such cold and windy weather. Thanks to Yim and Proud and other volunteers from READING UNI who were dedicating themselves for it. We matches went on until almost 12... I couldn't find any of my Uni friends and my Orange phone had absolutely no signal - -''.. I couldn't contact anyone..so I decided to go and get somethnig to eat...

The food was absolutely delicious and there were plenty of food for us to choose. That's the benefit of working for Samaggi...hehe.. we all get a free meal :P (Next year, join us if u want!) While I was having lunch, other Samaggi staffs, especially P'Nine (our lovely sport rep) as well as Pruet, Bo, Gee, Tong, P'Eve, P'Boy, P'Warn and so many others not mentioned here were still working, answering people's questions, selling Samaggi Nite tickets, controlling the matches - oh my god, I don't know what to say... you guys were absolutely dedicative and fabulous! Here's the atmosphere of Samaggi Games!!!

Leeds was putting so much effort into this, while KCL people were watching the game and relax...

Chairball in New Gym (at last, it's indoor!!) and tennis...

Samaggi staffs are working as well as enjoying free food...

The President's visit to Thai Soc and the Information Desk at the Old Gym

All matches ended before 5pm with football as the last sport to finish. Dear, dear....the New Gym was full of trashes and unwanted plastic bottles.. So I and some other people in that area had to clean up.. Thanks for plastic bags from Oxford! We found lots of interesting things there such as a bunch of bananas, 40 sandwiches, and Brandname trainers :) Finally, the New Gym was clean enough for people to sit in rows as uni, waiting for the CLOSING CEREMONY.

At the closing ceremony, we welcomed the Thai Ambassdor and his wife, and the Vice-Councellor of the Office of Educational Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy to present the medals to all winners.

Nottingham won most gold medals for second time in a row! Birmingham, other other hand, won the Cheerleading trophy with stunningly loud supports. Other teams were all joyful despite winning a few medals because that's not actually the ultimate purpose of the game... Me? I was walking around taking more and more photographs... That's the end of the story.. What a wonderful day!! Looking forward to NEXT YEAR's....!!!!

This is one of the biggest event of the year for Thai students in the UK. It provides the opportunity for us to rejoin and participate in various types of sports including football, basketball, badminton, tennis, squash, table tennis, volley balls, chess, chairball, and many traditional Thai sports for example sepak-takraw and 3-legged running. This year we have more than 300 participants from 26 leading universities around the UK. Everyone else is also welcome to support your favourite team!
Where and when?

Samaggi Games 2006 will be held at
Bradfield College, Reading, on Saturday 18 February. The sport competition will take place between 8.30am-3.30pm. The closing ceremony will be held at approximately 5.00pm and the team with the most gold medals will also receive additional prize!

How do I get there?
Please contact your University's Thai Society for coach arrangement as soon as possible. If you live in London, you may contact Samaggi directly at prsamaggi@yahoo.co.uk. Alternatively, if you prefer to get there by yourself, Reading is only 30 minutes on train away from London. However, in order to get to Bradfield College, you will need to take a bus or taxi there. What time should I arrive?
As mentioned above, the sport competition will take place from 8.30am onwards. If you are participating in any sport, please prepare to arrive at Bradfield at least 15min prior to your game. The time table for each sport has been sent to your Thai Society and this will be distributed in the event as well. Should any player in a team be unreasonably late, and the team cannot find a substitute, your team will automatically lose the match. So please arrive no more than 5min late maximum.

My uni does not participate in Samaggi Games, can I join the event?
Of course, everyone is welcome. You may also bring your non-Thai friends as well. Although only Thai players are allowed in the competition.

What are the benefits of joining Samaggi Games?
You will meet Thai friends from different universities all around the UK and will be able to share your study/life experiences. Meeting people from different backgrounds gives you a chance to open your world of knowledge and expose yourself to different life style. It also provides an opportunity for you to show your talent in sports and bring the best out of yourself!

Most importantly, 18 Feb is the last day that you can buy 'J Jetarin Live in London' tickets for just 10 pounds each. This event will also be held by Samaggi Samagom on Wednesday 1 March at 7pm, CC Club, Leicester Square. From 19 Feb onwards, we will still be selling the tickets 20% off the full price at 16 pounds each. However, the promotional period will end on 25 Feb. Afterwards, they will be sold at full price, 20 pounds each. To purchase J Jetarin tickets in advance, contact prsamaggi@yahoo.co.uk.

I don't want to get up early, I do not live in London. What can I do?
You may consider spending a night in London with a friend on the day prior to the Samaggi Games, or perhaps if you don't know anyone in London, cheap accommodation at Kor Por is also an alternative. However, getting up early is a good exercise...
